Calculate Your Water Savings Target
All Otay Water District customers must reduce water use by 20 percent based on your 2013 usage. To get your monthly water savings target, please use the Water Savings Target Calculator. Be prepared to enter your 9-digit account number. The 9-digit account number is located in the upper right hand corner of your water bill, and on the remittance section at the bottom. One “unit” of water equals 748 gallons.
A typical single-family residential customer in the Otay Water District uses approximately 14 units of water each month (14 Hundred Cubic Feet or 10,472 gallons). Water use is lower in the winter months, when there is less outdoor irrigation, and gets higher in the summer months when the climate becomes warmer and drier. Outdoor irrigation accounts for 50-60 percent of residential water use in the summer months. A “Conservation Tier” discount applies toward the first 5 units of water used when overall consumption is 10 units or less.
Governor Jerry Brown has ordered mandatory cuts in potable water use beginning June 1, 2015. The state mandate is intended to safeguard California’s water supplies in the event the statewide drought continues into a fifth year. The mandatory conservation order will remain in effect through February 28, 2016.
