Fifth Annual Garden Native Tour to be Held in Otay’s Service Area
The California Native Plant Society San Diego Chapter will host its fifth annual Garden Native Tour, “Garden of Growth and Legacy,” in parts of Otay’s service area on April 1 and 2 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This year’s tour will showcase more than 20 water-wise residential and public gardens and five of those will be within Otay’s service area, including homes in Eastlake and Rancho Del Rey, and the South Bay Botanical Garden at Southwestern College. The Sustainable Garden Showcase at the South Bay Botanical Garden will feature plant sales, lectures, and demonstrations.
Knowledgeable docents will staff each garden. Gardens also may include rainfall capture devices, edible plants, bird and butterfly habitats, and more. Attendees will have the opportunity to visit gardens and landscapes that won in Otay’s California-Friendly Landscape Contest in previous years. These gardens demonstrate the practices that improve the San Diego region’s water quality, water use, and the ecology of built environments.
The Garden Native Tour is presented by the California Native Plant Society San Diego Chapter as an effort to emphasize the beauty, ease of care, and affordability of water-wise gardens. Tickets prices are $20 per person prior to March 19 and will increase to $25. Children under 18 get in free. The Living Coast Discovery Center is also offering a one-time 50 percent discounted admission to its exhibits, several of which feature native plant habitats and native plant gardens. This one-time, discounted admission can be used any time before June 30, 2017. For details and tickets, visit www.GardenNative.org or contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
